What are chapter walks?

-An opportunity for first-year students to check out different fraternity houses and the chance to talk to members

What are the requirements to join a fraternity?

-At least 12 credit hours completed at the university level at Ohio State and at least a 2.5 GPA earned. Transfer students are eligible as well with 12 credit hours completed.

Is alcohol allowed at recruitment events?

-No, absolutely no exceptions.

How much does it cost to join a fraternity?

-Depends on the fraternity. Contact a member of the fraternity to learn more.

What is some of the terminology used?

  • Interfraternity Council (IFC) – The representative body of all men’s fraternities.
  • North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) – The international organization composed of more than 70 men’s fraternities.
  • Bid – A formal invitation to join an organization.
  • Recruitment – An organized activity to meet potential members.
  • Potential New Member – A man who is going through the recruitment process.
  • Initiation – A formal ceremony during which a man or woman begins full membership in an organization
  • Legacy – A potential new member whose grandparents, parents, or siblings are members of a particular organization
